Samuel

Just because I call Daddy "Dave" doesn't mean you should.

3 Months

How in the world did your 3 months on this earth happen so fast. Cooper, it has been a blur! And I want to apologize up front for the fact that I have not completely obsessed over every single thing you have done. Maybe because I know in time you will do all you need to and I am in no rush.

About you.
You are such a laid back boy. And to me I think you think a lot. You focus on objects and just stare. Your hero is your brother. You are fascinated with all he does. You can hang out in your swing and just watch him. Occasionally we even catch you with a little giggle when he does something silly. I think the feeling is mutual. Now, you are laid back but you also have a temper. When you want something you want it. And if you want be left alone you let us know.

You aren't nearly as stingy with your smiles anymore. In fact the other morning I came in to wake you up (hey that doesn't sound right) and you opened your eyes and smiled. Then you screamed, but you were hungry.

Your hair is still so blonde and it even has a cute little curly-Q in front. Hey, you kind of remind me of cupid. I could say something really corny right now. But I won't.

I mentioned your swing earlier. OMG I love your swing, probably as much as you. We even had to buy a new one because your first swing broke. Even your Dad let me replace it that day. That is how much you love your swing.

We are enjoying the fact that you are sleeping from about 9:30-6:00. I hope you are enjoying it too. And the last two nights you have slept without your bouncy chair.

School is going fantastic. This week one of the teachers said "cutest boy, but SLOWEST eater". It is true you do eat slow. Sorry. Your brother gets to visit you often and you are melting their hearts just as we knew you would.

Now for the sad part. There is a reason I am posting this before you actually turn 3 months. Mommy has to go away for a few days for work. I am DREADING this. It will be my first time away from you and your brother this long. I hate it. But work it is and I need to go. I know you will have a great time with Daddy. But please keep sleeping through the night!! And keep your big brother in line.

Love you Cooper Jakob!!!

Impressive

As we get closer to your 3 month birthday, you have slept through night 3 nights in a row so far. Last night you even slept without the security of your bouncy chair!

You are making this too easy on us. We didn't even have to let you cry it out!

Thanks Cooper! You rock!
(we needed the sleep)

Wii Fit

Our Wii Fit arrived today and while this blog is really about my kids, I felt I needed to share something with you all.

My Wii Fit age is 41!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am only 31. I have some work to do.

Dave's Wii Fit age is 54!!!!!!!!!! He is only 35. He has some work to do.

Well, wish us luck. I won't bring this up again until I am at least 10 years younger.

This Is Why I Do Bedtime

In an effort to make bedtime easier on Samuel we created a bedtime routine. We read a book (sometimes two), sing the Itsy Bitsy Spider (sometimes three times), say our prayers (just once) and then sing the Itsy Bitsy Spider again. I do this with him as he is a Mommy's Boy. But in a few weeks I have to go out of town for work so Daddy needs some practice. Based on tonight...Daddy needs a lot of practice.

Here are the lyrics to the Itsy Bitsy Spider by Daddy:

The Itsy Bitsy Spider climbed up the side of the house
Down came the rain and
the spider drown.
The sun came out and the grass grew.

No joke. His response was "why in the heck would I know the words?". My response "Why the heck wouldn't you?"

Happy Birthday Dave! You know I did post this out of love.

Curious

I Won't Look At You And I Won't Smile!

Caleb Won't Pose Either

Yesterday we went to Caleb's birthday party. I love watching those boys play together!! But I couldn't get either of them to stop and pose for a picture together. I can't believe Caleb is two and Samuel will be next month!!!

A Real Tear Jerker

Samuel made this for his Daddy for Father's Day.

It was so sweet it made me cry.

I Hate Surprises

Even when the surprise isn't for me. I was so excited that I finally thought of something to get Dave for his birthday/father's day this year. He has a poster of the Nebraska football stadium that he loves. We have been talking about getting it framed since before we got married. See I stripped his house of all bachelor related things. Pictures could no longer be hung with push pins and a Nebraska flag hanging over the couch didn't cut it. I also took out his sailboat shower curtain in his bathroom and put up a flower one. The Nebraska shower curtain in the other one was replaced with dragon flies. Flowers needed to be planted and a welcome mat placed by the door. I basically barfed girl all over the place. But, I always said I liked the picture of the football stadium and we should hang it up. But not with push pins. So a few weeks ago I took it and got it framed. Today I picked it up and hid it. But I made sure to show Samuel where I hid it. Then I said it was a surprise for Daddy. But it was killing me. I kept trying to get Samuel to accidentally show Daddy his present and Samuel kept saying no! All I could think about was the stupid picture and how I couldn't handle it being right there in the house. Dave kept asking me what was wrong and I would say nothing. But it wasn't true. There was something wrong, I had a surprise and it wasn't that I was pregnant this time! A half hour later I pulled out the picture and gave it to him. I was so relieved, but then very sad because now I have nothing to give him on Father's Day or his Birthday. See I hate surprises.

Oh Hello There

I Think What Makes This Picture So Good Is The Background

Not What I Had In Mind..

In an effort to get back to my high school weight (actually I will take my pre-baby weight) I ordered Wii Fit. I also paided twice as much as it was worth because I can't stand to be out bid on Ebay! I promised Dave that I would use it and make it worth every penny, so it is all good. Today it finally arrived! Only it didn't, a brand new set of Rachel Ray pans arrived today with an invoice that said Wii Fit. I sure hope the seller rectifies this and that Dave really does believe me when I tell him I didn't buy the pans.

I will keep the pans for my pain and suffering but give me my Wii Fit!!

Two Stories - One Subject POOP

Samuel:
Dave was giving Samuel a bath the other day while I finished up with Cooper's. This was pre-multitasking Christy so they were still getting separate baths. Not the point of the story so I will move on. Well I hear Dave so excited because Samuel went "potty" in the tub. I know gross. But he knew he was going potty! And that isn't gross, that is exciting. He even stopped mid flow to tell Dave he was going potty. Well Dave explained that when he needs to "potty" to go like this (insert Dave grunt). If you are on the same page as me you probably think associating a grunt with potty isn't good. So I come in to get Samuel and Dave said Samuel show mommy how you potty. Go (insert grunt again). Well, I am looking at Samuel thinking he isn't going potty. So I mention to Dave that the grunt looks like he is going to "poop" not potty. Dave didn't believe me. But then you heard the familiar sound of plop plop into the tub. I was right and I made Dave clean it up. But I think we are getting closer to potty training!!!

Cooper:
Cooper continues to have problems with pooping. We have to give him cereal at night or he is up every 2 hours to eat. And we both work so that doesn't work for us. Well, with cereal comes constipation. On Sunday I gave Cooper some prune juice. I have done that before, but this time it worked especially well. In fact I was holding him and smelled some poop so we went to change the diaper. As I am cleaning up his small poop and getting ready to put on a new diaper it was made apparent to me that he wasn't done. The poop shot out across the room, literally. There was poop on the fan, carpet, the door, it even reached as far as the bathroom door. I repositioned Cooper and then came round two. Shot out again this time hitting his toys, me and his crib. And all the while Dave is blaming me! I would have loved to see him handle this situation any better. He said you should have put a diaper on him...as if Cooper gave me time! Samuel was upset because he stepped in the poop. I am trying to clean it up as I am covered in it myself. And Cooper just laid there with this little smile on his face and the look of relief. I felt he put a new meaning to the "shit hit the fan" for me. I will forever remember when it really did hit the fan.

I am not great with re-capping stories but hopefully you got the picture. Heck I should have took a picture!

Me

Last night Dave was nice enough to let me have a night out with the girls. We did dinner and a movie. Actually we did 1/2 price appetizers and drinks, but that is the poor girls dinner. There were 5 of us and we had cheese fries, 2 orders of nachos, fried mushrooms, hot wings and 3 pitchers of beer. Hmmmm....that sounds like it should have been 5 guys. After we rolled out of the restaurant we went to see Sex In The City. We laughed, we cried and we all related to at least one story line in the movie. We also had heartburn.

Why with all that fun why was I so ready to come home and be with my boys??!!?? I remember when it didn't feel like a weekend unless I went out or had people over. Now I am lucky if that happens every six months. And I wouldn't want it to be any different. I guess I grew up. I guess I finally got to be what I wanted to be when I grew up. A Wife and a Mommy.

So here I am old, boring and in love. :o)

FIrst Swim Lesson of 08

Samuel had his first swim lesson today. I love swim lessons because it is a time for just Samuel and Daddy to hang out and have fun. Samuel had the biggest smile the entire lesson. His favorite part, climbing out of the pool and jumping back in!

I Have No Control

Samuel tells me when to:
  • Sit
  • Get Up
  • Walk
  • Drink and eat
  • Come here when he needs me
He tells me when:
  • He wants juice when I give him water
  • He wants chocolate milk when I give him just plain milk
  • He wants me to read Pat The Bunny when I read Cars
He shows me:
  • His swimsuit and swim-diaper when I pretend I don't understand he wants to play in the pool
  • His shoes when he wants to go outside
  • My shoes when he wants to go outside
  • The pantry when he wants "treats" (fruit snacks)
And at bedtime he tells me:
  • One more book
  • One more song
  • One more prayers
Cooper tells me when he wants to:
  • Eat
  • Sleep
  • Get a new diaper
And to all of the above I say "okay".

Multi-Tasking

I use to do two baths. Now I do one. And I get an extra 10 minutes each night.

Confession...

I worked my half day today and instead of picking up the boys right away I came home. And I don't feel guilty.

Waitin' on the rain to pass...

No I'm Awesome!
